Good News!

We pulled Maurice today. He is safe and at the vet being checked out. Thanks to Cathy Enlow for offering to foster Maurice and allowing us to rescue him! The rescue went fairly smoothly. If he is around when PJ pulls up, he runs up to her, takes two bones and runs off to avoid any conflict with the other dogs. This time we did not give him his bones so he would not run off. PJ easily slipped the collar around him. At that point he got a little nervous and tried to pull back. He was not the easiest to get into the car and he is a heavy boy for being so underweight. He is going to be so beautiful and happy once he realizes what life is supposed to be like for a dog. What a good looking boy! Thank you Cathy! Anyone have any guesses on his breed? We were thinking Boxer/American Bulldog mix. What do you think?

thanks mary. maurice has heartworm, but other than that, he is in pretty good shape. we have had very good luck with the treatment for heartworm, so i am sure that he will pull through. it will just be six hard weeks of calmness for him. we will see if his demeanor can handle it.

Well, for anyone follwing Maurice's progress, he's doing very well. He's great with my dog (Lil Bit) and the 3 cats. I started out feeding him 6 small meals a day, and now, he acts like he's finally gettting full (3-1/2 days later!) Today I'm going to cut him back to 3 meals a day and we'll go from there. He actually looks like he's put on a little weight already! I definitely think he's got pit bull in him. He has the classic pitt bull head on him. As for where he gets the body size, I think there may be some rottie in there too. He has a very large bone structure. He's going to be a big boy when he fills out and gets healthy! And, if all this weren't enough, he hasn't gone potty in the house at all! His basic obedience training is going well. He's got 'come' and 'crate' almost mastered already, and we're going to start on 'sit' and 'down' soon. He's very smart!
